TUESDAY, JULY 1

8 p.m. — The Tuesday Night Naturalist presents “Cave Rocks in a New Light” at Lewis & Clark Caverns. A unique opportunity to experience formations and learn more about cave geology. Campground amphitheater. Free for Montana residents and registered campers. (406) 287-3541.



WEDNESDAY, JULY 2

REMINDER: Belgrade Community Library’s Summer Reading Program will NOT meet this week.

6:30 p.m. — Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will offer a boating education class at the FWP office, 1400 S. 19th Ave., Bozeman. The class will include an overview of boating safety, equipment requirements, and the rules of safe operation. Participants must pre-register and read the boating manual prior to the class. The class is free of charge. To register, call 994-4042 or visit the office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

THURSDAY, JULY 3

5 p.m. — Registration closes for Reach’s Run for Independence, which takes place July 4. See July 4 calendar listing.

APPLICATION DEADLINE for the 2008 Montana Youth Range Camp, to be held the week of Aug. 4-8 in Hysham. Open to all students ages 12-18. Cost is $110 and includes all meals and activities. (406) 444-6619, (406) 342-5466, ext. 102 or dnrc.mt.gov/cardd/camps/rangecamp/default.asp.



FRIDAY, JULY 4

8 a.m. — Reach’s Run For Independence will take place at the East Gallatin Recreation Area. Runners are invited to show their patriotic colors in 1K, 5K and 10K races. The event is a fund raiser for Reach, Inc. Registration closes at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 3, and there is no race day registration. Online registration may be made at www.reachinc.org. Cost is $10 for 1K and $20 for 5K and 10 K races. Optional t-shirts are $5. Pick up race packets between 7 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. on race day.

2-4 p.m. — Celebrate an old-fashioned Fourth of July at the Museum of the Rockies’ Living History Farm. Step back in time and enjoy an ice cream social with games, crafts and traditional Fourth of July festivities. Free for Museum members and free with paid admission for non-members. 994-DINO.



SATURDAY, JULY 5

9 a.m. — Lewis & Clark Caverns will hold a nature walk departing from the park’s main visitor center. The walk will cover the nature loop and beyond to compare a wet riparian area with the typical desert type habitat found throughout the park. It will have an easy part and a more strenuous section (for the more adventurous). Free to Montana residents and registered campers. Limited to 18 people. Reservations/info: (406) 287-3541.





Sunday, July 6

Noon-6 p.m. — Absarokee’s 6th annual Montana BBQ Cook-Off is being held on Main Street. This fun family event is growing from a BBQ competition and microbrew tasting to include a day of free musical entertainment. TUESDAY, JULY 8

6-7:30 p.m. — Preregistration for hunter’s safety classes will take place at the Logan Rifle Range. A parent or guardian must attend with their child for the 15-minute registration process. Class dates are July 21, 22, 24, 25 and 26. There is no charge for the course. The student must be 12 years old before hunting season ends to take the class. 284-3241 or 284-6055.
